First week with my iPhone

Overall, it's fantastic!

The screen is beautiful. Scrolling, zooming and clicking are all intuitive, fast and smooth. Typing is better than I expected and quite usable. The camera is great and the ipod and phone are... well, an ipod and a phone. Just what you'd expect.

I had already switched to AT&T (because I was doing a lot of international travel and wanted a GSM phone), so the fact that they are the only provider was a non-issue for me. Coverage could be better but the same is true of Verizon, my old carrier. What would be great is if everyone used the same technology so that we'd all have better coverage!

How I'm using it, roughly in order of time spent:

  • email (through my gmail account)

  • reading news (when I'm waiting in line or havng coffee, or even at home when I'm not at the computer)

  • phone calls

  • taking pictures and blogging them

  • calendar and maps (for driving directions to appointments)

  • ipod

Three biggest complaints:

  1. No way (that I've found) to link to google maps from a calendar appointment

  2. No way to upload photos via the web browser when creating blog posts (it is possible to email them, however, so I've been blogging via the email interface and that works)

  3. No chat application (no, I don't count SMS as chat)
